Brympton House – The Bottom Line
Having filmed at Brympton House on several occasions I can definitely say this is a Somerset wedding venue that will not disappoint. There are multiple options for ceremony spaces as well as dining. The house is incredible and the grounds are very beautiful too, plus it’s all easily found near Yeovil not far from the M5.
The Grounds
The approach to Brympton House is grand to say the least. You get a good view of all the various spaces the venue has to offer and they’re all easily accessible – something that should not be underestimated when you have guests of all ages and varying mobility.
The main drive up to the house has a wide gravel path flanked by manicured lawns. Round to the South side of the house there is a large lawn perfect for sunny receptions, and the true size and grandeur of the house is revealed.
The lawns run all the way up to a picturesque lake and adjoin a stunning walled formal garden – perfect for a romantic stroll or a couple photo session.
Ceremony Spaces at Brympton House
You’re spoiled for choice with an on-site church as well as the civil ceremony room, Castle House (pictured) – both absolutely gorgeous options.
For summer outdoor ceremonies, the Temple is an open sided facade on the terrace with plenty of room for guests, and great views across the lawn to the lake.
Reception Spaces at Brympton House
The Great Hall is a fantastic indoor space for reception drinks, complete with grand piano, huge open fire and large windows. And if the sun is shining, the terrace offers ample room and the house as a stunning backdrop.
Main function rooms
Again, there’re multiple options depending on your guest numbers or whether you want a sit down meal or buffet. With 3 main dining rooms, there’s the State Dining Room which seats 50, the Salon which seats 100 and upstairs, the Ballroom which can seat up to 228 guests. All 3 are beautiful rooms.
Wet Weather
There’s no lack of space at Brympton D’Evercy. The Great Hall is a fantastic room in wet weather, and the main lounge and bar is also very large and accommodating, complete with another open fireplace. This leads on to a billiards room too. So loads of space to hang out.
The house is quite dark – which is amazing in winter as twinkly lights create an incredibly cosy atmosphere, however group photos inside might be challenging due to light levels – but the Great Hall would probably be the best bet with its large windows. Add some off camera flash, and it’s all good! In reality, there are few days where you can’t get outside at some point to take group photos.
Accommodation
The estate boasts 32 individually designed bedrooms and can sleep up to a total of 75 guests. This is a combination of bedrooms and bell tents in the grounds. The rooms really are pretty special, in particular the enormous bridal suite with its very own adjacent getting ready room which is flooded with natural light. This is real selling point for a lot of brides for good reason.
There are 5 family rooms, as well as disabled rooms on the ground floor and even 2 dog friendly rooms.
Catering
The food is always amazing at Brympton House and you can choose from sit down meals, or buffet style. I’ve always been a very satisfied customer!
Party Time
Having the separate barn space for parties is fantastic. It provides variety of location as well as allowing your band or DJ to get set up and sound checked early on which helps with timings and flow of the day. There is a bar, plenty of seating and those who need a break from the dancing and the loud music can easily retreat for quieter rooms to chat in.
Outside the barns is a fire pit and festoon lighting so if the evening is warm, there’s plenty of scope for sitting outside too.
Conclusion
Brympton House is certainly a favourite wedding venue of mine, for these great reasons:
- Beautiful grounds with plenty of space and variety for photo and video
- Variety of ceremony locations to choose from
- Variety of dining rooms to choose from
- Luxurious accommodation on site
- Accommodates most wedding numbers
- Fantastic separate party barn
- Everything you need on site without much walking
- Not far from the M5 near Yeovil
